Remotely program your DVR with your cell phone
Thursday, March 08, 2007
Programming a DVR simply by using a cell phone is now a reality. ATandT and Verizon Wireless announced two new offers to their customers that make it possible to remotely program the DVR with the cell phone. These are two separate offers and apply to two different DVR systems.
ATandT customers are able to use the cell phone to program the recording on the Homezone service. The latter is a video-on-demand offer that ATandT is able to offer thanks to the partnership with EchoStar.
The service of programming the DVR with the cell phone is already available to ATandT subscribers. Customers are not only able to program the DVR with the cell phone but can also consult the schedule and delete past recordings. The only requirement is a WAP 2.0-enabled handset that will have to access the ATandT-Yahoo portal.
Verizon Wireless instead will offer its new service to program the DVR via a cell phone starting from next week. The Verizon Wireless subscribers will be able to program remotely with the cell phone the TiVo DVR.
Another provider that soon will offer the possibility to program the DVR is Sprint Nextel but there is no word on how it will happen. We will see if all these offers to remotely program the DVR with the cell phone prove a recent poll wrong. According to it less than 10 percent of the surveyed sample found interesting the possibility to remotely program the DVR with the cell phone.
