DirecTV DVR to become dominant

Sunday, March 26, 2006

Enter the living room of almost any household and you will almost certainly find a large collection of videos and or DVDs. Hours of movies, documentaries and TV shows piled up around the TV. Ever since the invention of the book people have loved to store media in their households. DirecTV DVR is now set to become the dominant storage device of household media.

The DirecTV DVR is a replacement for all those home video libraries now storing up to 70 hours of information on one little box. With technology regularly improving we can only be seeing the DirecTV DVR getting better which could bring an end to traditional video rental stores.

What is happening with the continued integration of the DirecTV DVR into the household only mirrors what has been occurring with all video and audio media storage and playback technology over the past 50 years: A gradual progression from one format to the next as the demand for technological superior devices is marketed and recognized.

The DirecTV DVR is just the next inline in this logical technological progression. 8-track, Beta, compact cassette (Sony walkman), VCR, Laser Disc, Compact Disc, Mini Disc, DVD, MP3 Player, DVR and finally the DirecTV DVR.

This progression towards the uptake of the DirecTV DVR technology has been helped along by the uptake of digital technology in general which has begun to supersede the old analog devices. Digital struggled to enter the market at first when up against the large analog giants who were controlling the market. With the push forward of DVD technology and the free reign of digital information on the internet things began to change opening the market for DVRs and the DirecTV DVR.

Experts expect that DirecTV DVR type technology will become the dominant force within the next 5 to 10 years replacing the previous means of Audio-Visual media distribution that has been dominant over the past few years and see the end of video rental stores such as blockbuster with homeowners having an overwhelming access to digital media from the comfort of their own home. The speed of change greatly depends on how quickly Satellite TV companies respond to the DirecTV DVR devices.
