TiVo DVR Hacks
A TiVo DVR is quite simply a computer. A TiVo DVR and in fact most DVRs are built on a Linux operating system. In the same way a regular PC may have a Windows XP operating system a TiVo DVR has a Linux operating system. Because a TiVo DVR has the building blocks of a regular PC it has the potential to do a lot more than it can normally do. This leaves TiVo open to DVR hacks.
There are a number of TiVo hacks that can be carried out on your DVR. Some of the more interesting DVR hacks are listed here:
- You can hack your TiVo DVR to surf the internet and send and receive emails by enabling TiVo Web.
- You can do a DVR hack which will allow you to hook your DVR up to a home network and even the internet meaning you can connect to your DVR from other computers.
- Some advanced TiVo DVR hacks allow you to set up your TiVo as a regular PC.
- An interesting DVR hack is setting up your TiVo with caller ID where you an incoming caller’s number will appear on your TV screen. You do of course need a caller ID service to begin with.
