TiVo on Demand Adverts

The way we are presented with adverts is slowly beginning to change in reaction to the ad skipping power of TiVo and other DVR devices. Ad skipping is becoming a growing concern for advertisers and cable networks alike. A new interactive advert has already been discussed to help tackle the advertising problem. The latest attempt by TiVo and advertisers are the new TiVo on demand adverts.

These on demand adverts are opt in advertisements and come in many forms such as infomercials, how to videos, cooking segments and even short movies on product placements. This new style of advertising appears very promising; it allows users to choose what they are interested in and subscribe to it thus creating a more targeted audience for the advertiser. Additionally the advertisements are unlikely to be the regular in your face attention grabbing adverts which we normally experience but adverts which actually have value to the viewer. This could be in the form or entertainment (e.g. short movies with product placement) and through information (e.g. how to videos).

Examples include Kraft Food using how to cooking infomercials that includes Kraft products and Ford offering a series of Penn and Teller skits which include Ford vehicles. Development on this style of advertising began one year ago and now TiVo has over 100 brands involved in the project.
