TiVo DVR as an iTunes Player

Thursday, May 25, 2006

Using some free software for your PC you can now use your TiVo DVR to play your music from your iTunes Player on your PC. This is a great little tool which powers your TiVo into an ever more powerful media station. The software comes from Galleon.tv and can be downloaded here.

You need to have both your TiVo and your PC connected to a home network. Only MP3 files can be played directly from your iTunes playlist. You can see what it looks like when your TiVo DVR becomes an iTunes player below. The iTunes TiVo application from Galleon will automatically detect any updates on your iTunes playlist.

If you download the TiVo iTunes player from Galleon.tv and find that you don't like it there is also an alternative called TiviTunes. However this software costs $5 to register and basically does the same as the Galleon TiVo iTunes player. However the alternative is there is you need it.
