DVR RSS Technology | Something to Come?
Sunday, June 11, 2006We have already begun to see the movement of Internet Television onto our DVRs with the expanding growth of TiVo’s internet TV service
TivoCast. As Internet Television continues to grow and so does consumer awareness there may soon be a demand for DVRs with RSS capabilities which allow DVR users to subscribe to their favorite podcasts and vodcasts.
Imagine the having an interactive RSS aggregator built specifically for online vodcasts that works on your TiVo or DVR. This could take the form of something like the
Democracy TV Software on your DVR.
For those of you a little confused by what RSS is and what it could mean for your DVR experience here is a little explanation. Imagine an internet television show where each episode is posted on the website each week; now imagine choosing several of these internet TV shows which you have picked as your favorite out of a choice of hundreds and being able to have each of the episodes from these shows downloaded as they are released direct to your DVR. You simply switch on and play the latest of your favorite episodes. Effectively you have created your own personal TV channel through your DVR.
This is what RSS technology on your DVR could bring.
Currently one of the drawbacks of these types of shows is they will unlikely be in high enough quality to be viewed on a large PC screen, but as demand for higher quality increases and with bandwidth getting cheaper all the time this is probably something that we will be looking forward too in the next few years.
