Mobile DVR Surveillance System

Monday, July 03, 2006

DVRs have become extremely useful as surveillance recording tools offering a host of advantages over the old style VCR recorders which would use up excessive amounts of tapes and lacked the automation of the modern DVR surveillance system. More information on the use of DVRs in CCTV surveillance systems can be found in our CCTV DVR Guide.

Growing on the DVR technology is the ability to use mobile devices to receive and possibly record CCTV imagery. Current wireless monitoring systems that send signals to mobile devices tend to be to just live imagery that is low in quality.

A new solution from SK Telecom in Korea called Mobi-DVR allows wireless monitoring systems to send higher quality images at a rate of 11 to 15 frames per second to mobile devices. The service includes real time live viewing of these security images and also the option to record the images allowing a recorded image search system hence making a mobile DVR surveillance solution.

Additional services of Mobi-DVR include remote camera control from the mobile handset and a siren alert system. SK Telecom aims to market the Mobile DVR Surveillance System service in traditional CCTV surveillance environments such as petrol stations, offices, shops and factories. Interestingly however they also wish to extend their reach to a home audience which would allow parents to monitor new born babies in the home using video surveillance. This could be a nice technological advancement from the traditional sound only baby monitors.
