Automatic Advert Skipping on your DVR

If you find adverts very irritating then you will love the ability to skips adverts on your DVR, but what if this could be done automatically meaning you don’t even have to reach for the remote? Well this is completely possible if you use a custom DVR solution by building your own DVR or using your PC as a DVR.

If building your own DVR then MythTV is a great solution and it has a built in function where it will automatically skip commercials.

If you are using a PC as a DVR then the DVR software that you use may have an option for automatic commercial detection allowing you to automatically detect adverts and skip them. The technology usually uses a system which detects fading to black with technology in place that will detects false positives such as fading to black in movies.
