TiVo Series 3 HD DVR Due Soon!

Back in February All DVR News reported on the
TiVo Series 3 prototype. This new Series 3 DVR is the first significant hardware release in two years from TiVo and is now expected to be released very soon. A recent
FCC filing shows that the Series 3 TiVo is already being tested in select markets and that the CableCARD certification process is now complete. Also last week TiVo alerted cable companies of the pending arrival of the Series 3 TiVo stating that it will “be generally available in retail stores soon”.
The TiVo Series3 HD DVR is the very first device with CableCard functionality which allows you to record and playback encrypted digital cable broadcast and record High Definition video at the same time. TiVo’s aim is to make it possible for consumers to record two streams simultaneously from any video source while still watching live TV.
No details on pricing for the Series 3 have been released by TiVo although we do stick to our prediction of a price tag of $600 based on the current market prices for other premium DVRs such as the DirectTiVo HD. We could however see TiVo introducing a much lower price and making up for it somehow with subscription fees.
